Close up of image 'lnwrcov571' showing Coventry No 3 Signal box with the footbridge to Spencer Road Park immediately behind in 1919. The little extension by the door to the signal box was the toilet used by the signalman. At the bottom of the steps is a coal bunker filled to the top to be used by the 'bobbies' manning the box in three shifts per day, seven days a week and fifty-two weeks of the year. Beneath the bridge is a tall timber set of steps, their purpose unknown but they are high enough for someone access the top of a covered wagon or box van. LNWR Society No Lnwrs5078a |
