View of ex-LMS 2P 0-4-4T No 41900 is seen running wrong road
with a parcels train having just left the new depot. The temporary footbridge
can be seen above the train whilst laid across the line is a temporary timber
baulk road to provide access for the dumper trucks to the down platform area.
Turriff was a Warwick based construction company of some repute although not in
existence today. John Taylor writes in correcting the caption, the
locomotive is 41900 not 41909 as stated. At the time of the photo, October 1960
I think, No 41902 and No 41909 were stored inside the closed Coventry MPD. I
clearly remember seeing this loco on a parcels working at Coundon Road station
whilst waiting for a Nuneaton train. I think this train did three possibly four
trips a day between Leamington Coventry and Nuneaton with the motive power
being supplied by Leamington MPD with No 41285 being the usual choice. I can
only assume the Ivatt was unavailable such that Leamington had to borrow No
41900 to fill the gap.
