A classic view of Coventry shed and yard with LMS coal wagons and ex-LNWR and LMS locomotives on shed circa1936. The track which the coal wagons are standing is raised in height to assist in the coaling of the locomotives. Whereas at many other sheds a coal stage was provided at Coventry coaling was undertaken direct from the wagon. The increase in height of the track made it easier for the labourers to throw the coal in to the bunker or tender.
