View of three ex-LMS 4-4-0 2Ps including Nos 40694, 40699 in
store outside of Coventry's new shed on 26th April 1960. Built as LMS No 694 at
Crewe works in November 1932 it remained in service until December 1959 when it
was with drawn from Bescot shed and was recorded as being dumped at Rugby works
(with Coventry being decommissioned sub-shed the records would only record
Rugby as the location). When No 40694 was finally cut up in July 1963 by Crewe
works it was the last remaining member of the class. The other 2P was built by
the LMS as No 699 at Crewe works in December 1932 and it too remained in
service until December 1959 when it was withdrawn from Llandudno Junction shed,
stored at Coventry and scrapped during August 1960 by TW Ward Ltd of
Killamarsh.
