The cattle landing in Banbury Street looking towards the Grand Junction with the MR down home signal at Proof House Junction just above the shed. As with all railway companies, the LNWR were responsible for the care of livestock whilst in transition and the substantial roofed accommodation reflected this. The chimney seen located mid-way between the cattle pens is the accommodation providing warmth and shelter for the many drovers using the cattle landing. This facility replaced the earlier cattle sidings, also equipped with roofed pens, which were built in the early 1860s adjacent to the L & B station on the site which became the Excursion Station sometime in the 1870s and ultimately the fruit wharf.
