Curzon Street Good Station: lnwrcs1497b
Close up of image 'lnwrcs1497' showing Curzon Street's steam
powered lorry for transporting very heavy loads throughout the city. The wheels
of this vehicle were cast-iron with steel tyres rather than the wooden ones
seen on the other vehicles. Whereas the petrol powered vehicles were limited to
a maximum speed of 14 miles per hour the steam powered lorry was limited to 5
miles per hour. The wall behind the two vehicles seen above were originally the
Grand Junction Railway's stables which were converted to garages soon after the
arrival of motor vehicles at Curzon Street.
