View of the former hotel's dining room which was subsequently converted as the forwarding office. When first built the room would have been lit by chandeliers hung from the very ornate ceiling roses then by oil lamps and then later by gas lamps also suspended from the ceiling. The gas lamps being hung from the hooks seen in the ceiling in the above photograph. The use of electricity was adopted after the First World War and was added by the simple expediency of running uncovered cables around the walls and then across the ceilings.
