View of the grand doorway to Hardwick's main building with the L & B coat of arms sited on top of the ornate borrowed light. Just about visible, four courses of stonework up and on the right of the door, is a plaque erected in 1947 commemorating the 100th anniversary of the inaugural meeting of what became the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The meeting held on 27th January 1847 was said to have been held in the right hand rear room of this building.
