As part of its original station, the London & Birmingham
built a single-storey station master's house in the top yard. A curious site
was chosen for it, immediately beyond the end of the main sidings facing onto
the high cutting wall at the back of the yard- It did not survive as a
residence long and was converted into a workshop for repairing wagon sheets.
After the sheeting department closed in 1930 the house was used as a small
warehouse and stationery store.
