Radford Road: lnwrdh4165a
Close up of 'lnwrdh4165' showing the variety of rolling
stock being coupled behind the two locomotives including NLR stock. Philip
Millard writes, 'The front vehicle is a 30ft 0in CCT, then a 30ft 1in brake
van, then a 30ft 1in six-wheel gas tank wagon (a rather uncommon type, we will
guess that it is No 13 which was assigned to Nuneaton), then followed by a
train of ex-North London gas-lit four-wheeled coaches. Around 1919-20 many old
North London coaches were transferred to various LNWR locations, especially
Leicester/Nuneaton/Coventry area to eke out their remaining days on workmens'
services. Probably due to a post-war shortage of LNWR rolling stock, but why
this particular line should be selected to use them is unknown to me. The gas
tank wagon is being worked back to Nuneaton to be recharged'. The glass
plate is is labelled: Railway from Radford Race Course Fields, Coventry.
