LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Lichfield

View of the now solitary station structure located on Erdington's down platform circa 1978. The platform has been extended since it was first opened in 1862, most probably in 1884 when the line was extended to Lichfield. Whilst the original platform was built with a brick faced platform topped with paving stones, the new extension was built using timber. The entrance from the pathway, by the side of the timber structure, to Station Road is more evident in this photograph. One of two photographs of the station taken a decade after our time line of 1968 they have been included as a significant amount of the LNWR station is still evident. As soon we obtain some more photographs of the station pre-1968 these will be removed.
