Approaching Four Oaks station from Sutton Coldfield by train showing the configuration of the station on 1st November 1957. The Birmingham New Street to Lichfield/Four Oaks line was one of the first to receive Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) as part of the modernisation of the railways and to compete with road transport. There are at least three sets of two-carriage units standing either in platform 3 or the adjacent carriage siding. The smoke emitting from the chimney of the timber building on the right indicates that the Permanent Way gang are in resident brewing up between tasks.
