LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Lichfield

Ex-LMS 4MT 2-6-4T No 42262 running bunker first on a local New Street to Lichfield service during June 1949. On the right is Four Oaks' signal cabin which controlled both the station and the adjacent sidings. The sign states Passengers must cross the Line by the Bridge. The boarded crossing, known as a barrow crossing, was used by porters to transfer parcels and luggage from one platform to another and its easy access was very tempting to passengers.
