LMS Route: Nuneaton to Coventry
Foleshill Road Station: lnwrfr4211
Ex-LMS 2-6-0 'Hughes Crab' No 42970 is seen passing
Foleshill Road Signal Cabin on a Class K service in 1964. British Railways
categorised a Class K service as 'being a pick up or branch freight or
mineral/ballast train on a short haul run'. Built by Crewe works as LMS No
13270 in January 1934, it was renumbered as 2970 in June the following year
which it retained until British railways renumbered it as No 42970 in December
1950. We believe the year of this photograph is 1964, from other photographs of
Eric and as the locomotive was allocated to 5E Nuneaton shed in October 1963
and withdrawn from service in October 1964.
This is one of several photographs from the collection of
Eric Charles G Sharpe, born circa 1913, died 1995 in Coventry and his wife
Isis?/Iris M nee Pinfold, born 1917, died 1996 in Torbay, Devon. They were
purchased by Michael Wells from Beazley's Auction House, Preston, Paignton,
Torbay, South Devon circa 1999.
