The station's down platform, booking office and booking hall together with the large passenger shelter are clearly shown in the view on 22nd October 1960. Both platforms were extended to accommodate the longer trains which were required to move the large number of workers commuting to and from the nearby factories. The platforms were extended by using timber rather than brick material, this being a cheaper and quicker method of construction.
