View of an unidentified ex-LNWR 2-4-2T locomotive standing
at Harborne station in November 1934. On the left are a variety of open wagons
used primarily to transport coal and other mineral goods into Harborne. The
locomotive is most likely to be travelling to the turntable to be turned to
face the opposite direction. Despite being equipped to travel bunker first many
crews disliked to run in this manner because of the discomfort created by the
wind blowing dust into their eyes. Such was the dislike it was not unknown for
crews to use their break times to carry out this procedure.
