Interestingly the lamp over the buffer is a tail lamp with a red lens meaning that in all probability the train was configured as a push-pull service. The push-pull configuration allowed the locomotive to remain permanently at one end of the train for both directions of travel. When the train was to be driven with locomotive at the rear, as seen above, the driver would operate the train via controls located in a special drivers' cabin located in the last vehicle (see image 'lnwroffch1451a') for such an example.
