LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Harborne

Close up of image 'lnwrh68' showing six-wheel carriages stabled on the sidings with the goods yard and shed seen behind. The close up helps to show that the approach to Harborne station was on an embankment as it sweeps around from the bridges which passes over Park Hill Road. A loading gauge can be suspended from the goods shed's cantilevered roof whilst between the rails are disc signals used to control the stabling of carriages and wagons in the sidings. Although the alleged second platform was removed in 1911 this did not mean that traffic levels were falling. On the contrary, in April 1910 the number of up services was thirty-one and down services numbered thirty-two some of the former running non-stop to Rotton Park in order to decrease the journey time from sixteen to thirteen minutes. This allowed some workers the option of going home for lunch.
