Hampton in Arden station's up platform building after the removal of the roof in March 1966

View of Hampton in Arden station's up platform building after the removal of the roof in March 1966. According to Preston Hendry and Powell Hendry in their book 'LMS Stations', the structure was a blend of standard LNWR design and special features to harmonise with the booking office on the road. The brick base is atypical but the windows frames are unusually deep which, coupled with the decorative arches, repeat the lancet theme of the main station building. The mirror image of the platform structures resulted in the gentlemen's toilets on both platforms being sited at the Coventry end of the structures. This was common practice with many railway companies who obviously were sensitive to social niceties wishing to avoid the men's lavatories from the sight of the fairer sex.
