An unidentified Midland Railway 2F 0-6-0 locomotive is seen on what is thought to be the Hampton to Whitacre train

An unidentified Midland Railway 2F 0-6-0 locomotive is seen arriving at Hampton station in 1916. The one-coach train is arriving at Hampton from Whitacre, a minimum level of service accommodation which had been operated from the very early 1840s. The Midland Railway signal box was located between the sidings to the timber yard (seen passing in front of the steps) and the branch line to Whitacre. The LNWR signal box was located behind the wagons on the down side of the LNWR lines. The first wagon on the left is partially marked 'Stevens' with Doncaster seen below. The second wagon is marked 'Edward Lee and Son', merchants supplying coal and coke.
