LMS Route: Nuneaton to Leamington
Kenilworth Station: lnwrk163
Ex-LNWR 3P 4-4-0 Precursor class No 5300 'Hydra' is arriving
at Kenilworth with steam escaping from the safety valves whilst on a local
service to Leamington. Ex-LNWR 4-4-0 'Hydra' has been photographed on the same
day as image 'lnwrk162' as is evident by the wagons
on the left. The tall signal behind the tender has two arms because of sighting
problems. The curve of the track and road bridge seen in the distance would be
problematic for drivers if the signal was sited at normal heights off the
ground. Whilst the highest signal could therefore be seen from a distance it
was too high to be seen on foggy days and therefore a second repeater signal
was required at a much lower level.
