Ex-LMS 8F 2-8-0 No 45324 Stanier Class 5 approaches Gibbet Hill on an up express fitted freight service. A Type 6 working, British Railways categorised this as an 'Express freight train partly fitted, with the automatic brake operative on NOT less than 20% of the vehicles. Maximum speed 45 mph.'. Built by the Armstrong Whitworth Company in February 1937, No 45324 was to remain in service until August 1967 when it was withdrawn from 9F Heaton Mersey shed to be scrapped by J Cashmore of Great Bridge.
