LMS Route: Rugby to Leamington Spa (Avenue)
Marton Station: lnwrmart1328a
Close up of image 'lnwrmart1328' showing the goods yard's
Lime store which was built with a steel frame and timber planking to counter
Lime's corrosiveness. To the left of the store and out of view of the
photographer was a small stable housing the railway horse. The horse would have
been used for shunting the wagons and delivering goods throughout the local
area. The schematic of the station layout shows a wagon turntable was still
evident in the late 19th century on the siding on which the wagon is standing
was. This was according to Messrs. Preston-Hendry and Powell-Hendry a relic of
the original 1851 layout when the line was single from Rugby to Leamington.
