View of Marton Junction signal cabin showing the coal bunker
on the left and the toilet facilities outside the signal cabin door on 5th
March 1966. The ex-LNWR signal cabin was opened on 1st August 1895 when the
single line to Weeden was opened and had a 25 lever frame with six levers not
commissioned - 8, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 22. As Weeden branch line was single track
trains working the branch were controlled by a Webb & Thompson electric
train staff. Single track was divided in to sections with passing points at key
locations - normally stations - and each section was controlled by a train
staff which ensured only one train could occupy each section of the route.
