LNWR 2-4-0 Newton class No 1523 'Marlborough' is seen standing alongside Monument Lane's original shed. Built in 1866 at Crewe works by Ramsbottom the locomotive seen above has been subject to some alterations by his successor, Francis Webb, and now carries Webb's chimney, black livery and slotted splashers to the middle wheel.
