Ex-LMS 4-4-0 Compound No 41168 is seen being 'serviced' by
driver Howard Stanley on 4th August 1960. Tony Higgs writes in his book
Monument Lane Loco Shed that, 'By then the the Compound had been stored
for more than two years and would have required considerably more than oil than
Howard has available in his can before it can become serviceable!' In fact the
Compound, which had been built by the North British Locomotive Company in
October 1925, was not officially withdrawn from service until week ending 7th
July 1961 and was not cut up for the best part of another year.
