Ex-LMS 5XP Jubilee class No 45631 'Tanganyika' moves slowly through the yard on 4th August 1960 after being serviced. Allocated to Longsight shed, No 45631 had just been topped up with coal and had its fire cleaned in preparation of working back home to Manchester. The Jubilee class locomotive had been built by Crewe works in November 1934 and was to remain in service until August 1964 when it was withdrawn from 5A Crewe North shed. On the right is ex-LMS 2P 4-4-0 No 40692 which Tony Higgs records in his book as being officially allocated to Bescot despite being stored at Monument Lane. Built by Crewe works in November 1932, No 40692 was officially withdrawn from service from 21B Bescot shed during August 1961. In all probability No 40692 never returned to Bescot and therefore being withdrawn from Bescot was probably only a paper based exercise.
