Close up of image 'lnwrmlsh81' showing Monument Lane's new shed which contained six internal roads all of the same length. In the intervening half-century since the shed was built and the photograph was taken the filth and grime has taken a real hold. The white painted stripe would have been particularly useful on a foggy or dark moonless winter's night to crews in the absence of external lighting. To the left of this photograph were four stabling sidings and on the extreme of the boundary the water softening plant. To the right and rear of the shed and attached were the various stores, mess rooms, offices including the foreman's office. Brian Swancott, former Passed Fireman at Monument Lane, writes 'The four roads to the left of the shed are actually slightly higher than the shed roads and was called the Prom for whatever reason, I think that the wagons on the Prom were there because they had sand, lime and general spare parts. The ash pit and coal tower were fed by the same road which was accessed from the north end of the cross over to the main line, in fact they were very close to the down line to Wolverhampton'.
