Ex-LMS 2-6-0 Hughes Crab No 42853 is seen at the head of a ballast train waiting for the signal to give it the road from the up marshalling yard circa 1961-2. Built at Crewe works in March 1930 No 42853 remained in service until June 1963 when it was withdrawn from Birkenhead shed to be scrapped during October 1963 at Crewe works.
