Ex-LMS 2-6-0 'Horwich Crab' No 42813 triple heads an up freight
train past Nuneaton Up Sidings Signal Cabin in 1951. The second and third
locomotives are unidentified, the first being an ex-LNWR 0-8-0 locomotive and
the second being an ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 locomotive. Closer examination suggests
that the 4F 0-6-0 locomotive is detached from the freight train. The first and
third locomotives seem to have full tenders and therefore its unlikely it they
coupled to together to run to Nuneaton shed. The lead locomotive has a single
lamp over the left hand buffer indicating its a Class 8 working - Through
mineral or empty wagon train. It is therefore possible that the three are
being coupled together to work the train south to Rugby thereby reducing the
number of paths required on this busy section of line.
