LMS Route: Nuneaton to Leamington

Ex-LMS 2P 4-4-0 No 40683 stands in withdrawn condition alongside the ash plant on 3rd September 1961. Built as LMS No 683 by Derby works in April 1932, No 40683 was renumbered in February 1949 by British Railways as No 40683 which it carried until March 1961 when it was withdrawn from 1C Watford shed. Its actual withdrawal date appears to be confused as some records show it was in store at Rugby in December 1959 and this photograph shows it at Nuneaton some six months after it was withdrawn from Watford.
