Ex-LMS 2-8-0 8F No 48723 is seen entering the throat to the up marshalling yards with a down Class K working circa 1962. Class K workings were comprised Pick-up, branch freight, mineral or ballast trains on a short haul run. Built as for the LNER as a Class 07 locomotive at Brighton works in August 1944 No 48723 was subsequently transferred to the LMS at the time of nationalisation having been allocated the North Eastern division number No 63518. Its not known whether it actually carried this number before being allocated Midland Division No 48723 which it carried until August 1968, the last month of steam on mainline British Railways, when it was withdrawn from Lostock Hall shed to be scrapped in December 1968 by TW Ward Ltd of Beighton near Sheffield.
