Ex-LMS 4-6-0 Rebuilt Patriot class No 45529 'Stephenson' is seen standing under the wires on a down express freight circa 1964-6. Re-built by Henry Fowler in April 1933 at Crewe works from a ex-LNWR Claughton design, the original Patriot was equipped with a parallel boilered and numbered and named 5529 ' Sir Herbert Walker KCB' until 1937 when the name was removed. When rebuilt with a tapered boiler in July 1947 to the same specification as the rebuilt Royal Scot class (except they retained their 17 inch cylinders compared to the 18 inch cylinders of the Royal Scot class) the locomotive was named 'Stephenson' and remained in service until February 1964 when it was withdrawn from Annesley shed to scrapped during March 1964 by Crewe works.
