British Railways built 2-6-0 4MT No 43024 is seen standing
between duties in Nuneaton's up marshalling yard. The legend British
Railways was first adopted before British Railways adopted the first of two
corporate coat of arms and indicates that the photograph must have been taken
in the early 1950s. Built at Horwich works in January 1948 at Horwich works No
43024 carried the ugly (and totally inefficient) chimney which was later
redesigned following extensive testing at Swindon and Derby. It was withdrawn
in June 1967 and scrapped by J Cashmore at Great Bridge in October of the same
year.
