William (Bill) J Gibbs with other shed staff taken to record the last steam locomotive that Bill operated from Nuneaton shed. Bill, at the age of 15, started his working life with the LMS and served them throughout the war being in a reserve occupation. David Farmer, his grandson is given to understand he started first as a 'knocker-upper' i.e. someone who goes around in the early hours of each day to get the shed's staff out of bed and on time for work.
