British Railways Standard Class 7MT 4-6-2 No 70012 'John of Gaunt' passes Nuneaton station's No 2 Signal Cabin in 1958

British Railways Standard Class 7MT 4-6-2 No 70012 'John of Gaunt' passes Nuneaton station's No 2 Signal Cabin in 1958. Built at Crewe works in May 1951, No 70012 was to remain in service until December 1967 when it was withdrawn from 12A Kingmoor shed in Carlisle to be scrapped by TW Ward of Beighton.

Peter Lee writes on 'Nuneaton Steam Club' Facebook page, '... it is nice to cast ourselves back to circa 1958 and see a photo taken by Mike Mensing of a Longsight 'Britannia' bowling through the station past Nuneaton No 2 Signal Cabin box with an up Manchester express heading to London. Manchester Longsight had these 'Britannias' in the 1950s for the London services and they enlivened the vastly more interesting days for trainspotters in Nuneaton whose mostly meagre express fare today are 'Voyagers' and 'Pendolinos'. Note too the shunters cabin in front of the No 2 Signal Cabin which was the control office for the men operating in the marshalling yard beyond'.
