Ex-LMS 5XP Patriot class 4-6-0 No 45537 'Private Sykes VC' stands in line with other stored locomotives. Nominally rebuilt from a LNWR Claughton class locomotive in July 1933 at Crewe works No 45537 remained in service until September 1962 when it was withdrawn from Nuneaton shed.

Like conquered giants the engines lie
Rusting, decaying they wait to die
Until the crash, clang and peal of the crushers
Crush them into lumps of steel
Like toys forgotton when battered and torn
These engines lie, dejected, forlorn.
