In ex-works condition LMS 4-6-0 Royal Scot class No 6115 'Scots Guardsman' stands outside the trainshed ready to take forward a down express

On 5th November 1927 in ex-works condition, LMS 4-6-0 Royal Scot class No 6115 'Scots Guardsman' stands outside the train shed ready to take forward a down express. The locomotive has still to receive its name as the nameplate is blank. In the distance to the left can just be seen the GC 'birdcage' bridge. No 6115 was part of the first batch of engines built for the LMS by the North British Locomotive company to order number 23610 in October 1927. Rebuilt in 1947 with a new tapered type 2A boiler and painted in LMS 1946 black livery No 6115 was renumbered 46115 by British Railways after nationalisation in 1948 and in December 1965 was withdrawn from Kingmoor shed to be exhibited by Butlins holiday camp resulting in their being two preserved today.
