Clifford Road junction signal cabin liaised with Rugby No 1 signal cabin for traffic using the lines to and from Northampton and Hillmorton for lines to Euston. Whereas the LNWR lines were up to London and down to Rugby, the single LNWR line from Market Harborough was also categorised as the up line. It was one of the many anomalies with cross country lines not heading towards London, the up and down direction would be decided by other factors.
