English Electric Type 4 D383 passes Rugby's No 5 signal cabin with the down 'Royal Scot' service in 1962. This type of diesel locomotive was later classified under TOPs as Class 40. They were built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962, eventually numbering 200, they were for a time the pride of the British Rail early diesel fleet. D385 was later allocated the TOPs number 40185 and entered service week commencing 28th March 1962 being delivered to York (North) depot and then remained in service until week commencing 8th August 1983 when it was cut up by Doncaster works during the first week of December 1983.
