A diagram of Rugby station and carriage shed showing the principal lines through the station

A diagram of Rugby station and carriage shed showing the principal lines through the station. Bob Essery believes the diagram reflects the station's lay out circa 1910. The diagram shows Rugby's goods shed and cattle sidings located at the top, centre right whilst the sidings on both the up and down sides of the lines to Stafford have been omitted for clarity. On the extreme right the bridge carrying the railway over Newbold Road can be seen. At the time of writing this caption (September 2012) the author has no information about the engine turntable seen near to Newbold Road. As this location is very near the site of the original temporary London & Birmingham station which had an engine shed and turntable then its possible that that this might have been an original 1837-40 structure. The location of both the up and down horse and carriage landings are to be seen to the left of the tunnel carrying road traffic beneath the station between Murray Road at the top and Mill Road at the bottom. Note the position of Rugby's No 7 signal cabin when compared to image 'lnwrrm2425'. Above its shown on the up side of the lines running through Rugby whereas in in image 'lnwrrm2425' is on the down side. The reason being that the signal cabin seen above suffered from subsidence and was replaced in 1936.
