Rugby Shed: lnwrrm2598

Ex-LNWR 7F 0-8-0 G2a No 48953 is seen standing outside of Rugby No 2 shed in Spring 1959. Built by Crewe works in August 1896 as a Class 'A' four-cylinder compound and numbered by the LNWR as No 2541 , the locomotive was to be rebuilt a further three times, as a Class 'C' in November 1904, a Class G1 in December 1926 and finally as a G2a in December 1939. It was also renumbered twice more, as LMS No 8953 in October 1923 and by British Railways in November 1948 as No 48953 which it carried until October 1961 when it was withdrawn from 4A Bletchley shed.
