An elevated view of the front of Rugby Locomotive Testing Station seen on 23rd September 1948 just prior to its opening in October 1948. When opened it was just over 21 years since HN (later Sir Nigel) Gresley, CME of the LNER, expressed during his Presidential Address to the Institution of Locomotive Engineers on 29th September 1927, the need for a national locomotive testing station.
