LNWR 0-8-2T No 2348 is seen shunting a rake of coal wagons in Rugby's up exchange sidings

LNWR 0-8-2T No 2348 is seen shunting a rake of coal wagons in Rugby's up exchange sidings. The Signal Box in the background is the Midland Railway Signal Box which controlled the Midland Railway's lines from Leicester. Above the coal train are the Midland Railway carriage and wagon sheds used to repair carriages and crippled wagons. The rake of wagons making up the goods train includes two Griff Colliery wagons and one LNWR loco coal wagon. When describing signal boxes we have tried to maintain the relevant railway companies' terminology. To the LNWR such structures were known as Signal Cabins whereas the Midland Railway, in common with most other railways, described them as Signal Boxes. Coincidentally, the other main railway passing through Rugby, the Great Central Central, also adopted the practice of using the term Signal Cabins.
