Ex-LNWR 4-4-0 3P No 5276 'Titan' stands inside Rugby's Coal Hole with its tender now replenished. Rugby's Coal Hole could handle the coaling of the depot's locomotives either by standing inside the shed or alongside the shed. The wagon on the right stood at a higher level which helped with moving the coal into a tender or bunker. Each of the roads serving the Coal Hole rose at a gradient of 1 in 30 and then levelled off inside the Coal Hole before it rose again on the other side where full wagons would be stabled in order that they could be lowered by gravity when required. Built as LNWR No 7 in July 1907, No 5276 received its LMS running number in April 1928 and was to be renumbered in the duplicate series as No 25276 but was never applied as it was withdrawn from service in October 1935.
