Craven single-car Diesel Multiple Unit M55998 approaches Rugby via the Birmingham up line on 1st September 1962

Craven single-car Diesel Multiple Unit M55998 approaches Rugby via the Birmingham up line on 1st September 1962 whilst an ex-LMS 2-6-4T locomotive stands on the former Midland Railway's Leicester line. Just three of these Cravens parcel units were built, M55997-99, in 1958. Classified by BR under its TOPs initiative as Class 129, these units were built for parcels traffic like the Class 128. One unit (M55997) survived into departmental service being named 'Hydra'. The driving ends of the Class 129 unit bore a visible similarity to that of the British Rail Class 105, also built by Cravens.
