A late Victorian view of the down platform with an important express service waiting to depart to the north. The gentleman standing wearing a top hat is Rugby's station master who would always supervise the arrival and departure of important passenger services. The train guard is standing on the right next to a brake van which was normally the first vehicle behind the locomotive's tender.
