Looking north towards Stafford with the water tank house and Station Terrace housing on the left circa 1940s. David Hanson wrote in Letters to the Editor in LNWR Journal Volume 5 Edition No 4 '.. this photograph was taken about 1940, when the old LNWR signals were being replaced by colour lights, and looking in the Down direction. By this time the old revolving discs had been replaced by miniature ground signals and the gantry had been strengthened with guy ropes, but the old gas lamp and the fog hut still remain, as does the short fence in the background. The tracks (left to right) are the Down Goods, Siding No 5 and Down Fast.'.
