BR Standard Britannia class No 70044 'Earl Haig' is seen at the head of the down 'The Mancunian'

BR Standard 7P 4-6-2 Britannia class No 70044 "Earl Haig" is seen on 'The Mancunian' down express comprised of coaching stock painted in BR's carmine and cream livery better known as 'blood and custard'. Number 70044 was built at Crewe works in June 1953, although its nameplate wasn't fitted until February 1957, and lasted only a short time in service being withdrawn in October 1966 from Stockport Edgeley shed to be scrapped in February 1967 by TW Ward of Beighton.
