Ex-LNWR 3P Precursor class 4-4-0 No 25245 'Autæus' stands inside the station on one of the sidings which ran within the train shed. The side screens behind the locomotive were designed to protect passengers from the high winds that could prevail as the station was elevated above the surrounding area. Number 25245 was built at Crewe in April 1906 as LNWR No 561 which it kept until it received its LMS No 5245 in January 1927. Renumbered into the duplicate list by adding 20000 to its existing number it remained in service until withdrawn from service in March 1941 for immediate scrapping.
